Aval upma recipe – South Indian style aval upma recipe – Poha upma recipe with a short video and step-by-step instructions.
I am huge fan of upma, yes you heard it right. Usually, many people don’t like upma. I grew up eating semiya upma, Rava upma, puli upma and I love everything. After marriage, I tasted aval upma for the first time. My mom makes vella aval only at home. My mother-in-law made a very tasty aval upma and that was the first time, I tasted a savory dish with aval.
Later heard about this Maharashtrian Batata poha recipe from friends and tried that too. I wanted to document my mother-in-law’s version of Aval upma.

Had a sumptuous bf with this aval uppuma. Capsicum, peanuts & lemon juice do the magic & give great taste to this dish. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for a wonderful recipe.
Hi jeyashri, I made the poha today just as you said..but its try and little hard to eat..is this the way it will be…pls advise..
No it will be very soft and easy to chew and eat. May be you must have soaked and drained the poha and kept it open for a long time. always wash the poha and soak it for a minute in water and drain the water and add to the veggies. If you find dry while making just sprinkle some water and give it a nice mix.
