Eggless Dates and walnut cake | eggless dates and walnut loaf recipe with full video and step-by-step pictures. No sugar, no egg, no butter dates cake recipe
After trying out the eggless orange cake from Prathiba’s I tried this eggless dates and walnut cake from her blog. It is a super hit at home. I used powdered jaggery instead of sugar.
This is an eggless, butterless cake recipe with easily available ingredients. If you are a beginner in baking, you should try out this recipe for sure. If you want to make a vegan version, replace normal milk with oat milk or almond milk.
The cake turned out super soft and spongy. You can pack this for kid’s snacks box too.

Eggless Dates and walnut loaf recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup plain flour | maida
- 18-20 seedless dates
- ½ cup powdered jaggery
- 1/2 cup oil
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ¼ cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Soak the dates in warm milk for 15 minutes.Alternatively you can microwave this for few minutes.
- When the milk comes to a normal temperature grind this into a smooth paste.
- Transfer this to a bowl and add the powdered jaggery or sugar.
- You can grind the sugar along with the dates too.
- Mix well evenly.
- Add oil to this and mix well.
- Add flour and baking soda to this.
- Mix well gently and evenly.
- Add 2 tbsp of chopped walnuts to this and mix well.
- Grease a baking tin and line it with a butter paper.
- Transfer the dates cake batter to this.
- Now dust the remaining walnuts with little flour .
- Sprinkle this on the top of the batter.
- Dusting with the flour, prevents the walnut from sinking into the dough.
- Preheat the oven at 160 degree Celsius for 5 minutes.
- Bake at 160 degree Celsius for 30-35 minutes. Mine got over in 32 minutes.
- Take out and cool in a wire rack.
- When it completely cool, cut into slices.
- You can make this in a cake tin too.

- I added 1/4 tsp of vanilla essence to get the vanilla flavor.
- The color of the eggless dates walnut cake depends upon the variety of dates and the jaggery you use.

I too have made this cake a couple of times, first time it was disaster but second attempt was fairly successful. The cake looks dense and flavourful.

@banu, I have replaced oil instead of butter and vice versa in my banana muffins recipe. They turned out nice. I think this will also turn out good. just try it out.
@uma, sorry for the very delayed reply. The size of my cake tin is 7 inch diameter and 2 inch depth round pan.
tried out this recipe with 1/4cup oil and turned out soft and moist..was tastier the next day..

Yes 2 days in room temperature in a air tight box will do. Allow the cake to completely cool and then put it in the container. Ensure that you use dry hands while handling the cake

Both are different, you can not substitute.
