Flax seeds powder| flax seeds podi, healthy podi made with flax seeds and curry leaves. This flax seed podi can be mixed with hot rice or can be had with idli | dosa too. Flax seeds have a lot of health benefits. We usually add this in smoothies or add in salads. After coming to Hongkong we stopped taking our morning smoothies. As the weather is cold, we don’t feel like taking smoothie in the morning. I have heard about Flax seeds powder | flax seeds podi but never tried or tasted it. So i tried that at home and it turned out well. I added curry leaves to that to make it more healthy.

Flax seeds podi
Ingredients
- ½ cup Flax seeds
- 2 tbsp Urad dal
- 2 tbsp Chutney dal | pottukadalai
- 8-9 Red chili
- 1/3 cup Curry leaves
- 4 cloves Garlic
- Salt as needed
Instructions
- In a pan dry roast ½ cup flax seeds.
- Roast in medium flame. This will start popping up.
- Keep it aside
- Roast 2 tbsp urad dal in the same pan.
- Once half done, add 2 tbsp chutney dal| pottukadalai. Both the dals will give a nice texture and volume to the Flax seeds podi.
- Roast till urad dal turns golden brown.
- Keep it aside.
- In the pan add 8-9 red chili. I added less later felt it was very less spicy and then added more.
- Add 4 garlic cloves. You can add more if you want to get a good garlicky flavour.
- Add 1/3 cup curry leaves. Adding curry leaves is optional. I wanted to add curry leaves in the diet so added it in the podi.
- Roast in medium flame.
- Let the leaves turn crispy.
- Switch off.
- Let this sit in the pan for 5 mins.
- Cool all the ingredients completely.
- Powder in a mixie. Do not grind for too long, as the flax seeds will start leaving oil.
- Spread in a plate for 5 mins to get rid of the mixie heat.
- Store in a clean dry jar.

- I added 5 chilis later felt it is less so increased the quantity in the ingredients.
