Those who follow Jeyashri’s kitchen for a long time and follow me on Instagram, knew well that I am a huge fan of mango. We have a huge collection of Mango recipes in Jeyashris’s kitchen. This Mango ice cream is an easy recipe that my mom used to make during our childhood days. We would wait for the summer to come and indulge in mangoes and the delicious ice cream made by mom. This recipe of mango ice cream does not require any ice cream maker or any fancy ingredients. We can use our regular mixie to make this Mango ice cream.

Back in our childhood days, amma used to make this using homemade fresh cream. Condensed milk is the one which we used to buy rarely those days. We don’t have tin openers those days to open the condensed milk tin. Amma uses a hammer and a spoon to open this. We used to surround her, just to lick the tin and the mangoes. Also, amma puts a strict rule as not to open the refrigerator, till the ice cream is fully set. But we impatient kids will secretly peep in and get scolded always.

My mom learnt this recipe from my Aunt (athai) We all cousins used to enjoy this during our summer holidays.

Notes

1. You can use store-bought mango pulp also in this recipe. If using, adjust the condensed milk, as store-bought pulp contains sugar.
2. You can also use whipping cream for this recipe, instead of fresh cream.
3. If using, whip this first till it peaks, and then proceed. In this method, no need to take out and pulse after an hour.
4. Use nicely ripe mangoes for making Mango ice cream. 5. Mango ice cream can be made using banganapally mango too.

    • Renu, if adding milk u have to add sugar. but if ur adding milk always completely cool the milk after boiling. I am have not tried by adding milk, u try and let me know please , esp how the texture was.

  4. hi jeyashree
i have a doubt…when i make icecream at home…when i put in freezer..it forms crystals…i think by blending it will go…how many times we have to blend the mixture to become soft?

    • Every one hr u blend this ad freeze. Do this for 3 times. U will get it creamy. Even I am making this Tom as I bought the season's first mango yesterday.

  5. hi jeyashree

  6. Jeyashri,

Planning to try out this yummy one this week end.can you tell me?

Is mango pulp necessary or we can use fresh mango, grind it and use its paste?

Can we use normal milk instead of condensed milk?

    • U can replace mango pulp with fresh mango puree. But make sure the magoes are ripe and not sour.
you can replace normal with condensed milk, but don't forget to add sugar.Add sugar according to your taste. Use full cream milk to get a creamy texture

  7. Yes tried it out with mango puree.. the taste was so good.Color was so good.
But the texture(it was little crunchy) of it was not as soft as we get in icecream shops.

I added some small amount of water when i make mango puree. Will it be a cause for my texture.

    • Water makes a lot of difference in the texture. It will always turn out soft even with fresh mangoes as my mom makes with fresh mango only. We don't get puree those days. And beating the mixture 3-4 times makes it smooth

  8. hi jeyashree
