Palakura pappu| Andhra style palak dal recipe, a simple dal recipe made with toor dal and fresh palak leaves, recipe with full video and step by step pictures. I have posted few Andhra style recipes in Jeyashris Kitchen. We recently had a lunch meet in one friend’s house and her sister hosted the party. She cooked an Andhra meal for us and i loved all the items in the menu. I loved her Tomato dal recipe, since i had the recipe in Jeyashris kitchen, i replaced her replace with palak leaves and made the popular Andhra style Palakura dal.

Ingredients
- Toor dal ½ cup
- Tomato 2
- Palak 2 cups
- Red chilli powder 1 tsp
- Coriander powder ¾ tsp
- Turmeric powder ½ tsp
- Asafoetida a pinch
- Garlic 6 cloves
- Green chilli 2
- Red chilli 1
- Ghee 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
- Urad dal 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida a pinch
- Salt as needed

Palakura pappu| Andhra style palak dal recipe, a simple dal recipe made with toor dal and fresh palak leaves, recipe with full video and step by step pictures.
- Add 1/2 cup toor dal, 3 cloves garlic, 2 slit green chili, 2 chopped tomatoes and a pinch of turmeric powder.
- Add enough water and pressure cook this for 4-5 whistles.
- Mash this well and add it to a pan.
- Finely chop 2 cups of palak leaves.
- Add the leaves to the dal.
- Add 1 tsp red chili powder, 3/4 tsp coriander powder and salt.
- Let this boil for 10 minutes.
- Use a whisk mash it well.
- In a small pan add 1 tsp ghee, 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp urad dal, 3 cloves garlic, 1 red chili and a pinch asafoetida.
- Once the garlic turns golden brown, add it to the dal.
- Mix well and serve the palakura pappu with a Urulai kara curry or vazhakkai roast.
Notes
1. Palak leaves will get cooked while boiling the dal. Alternatively you can cook it along with the dal in pressure cooker. 2. This palakura pappu is medium spicy, if you want it more spicy you can add little more red chili powder.
