Sweet pidi kozhukattai recipe, with full video and detailed step by step pictures.
I have seen in many of my friend’s place they make this sweet pidi kozhukattai for Ganesh Chaturthi | Pillayar Chaturthi. Amma never makes this at home. I wanted to post this sweet pidi kozhukattai recipe for the past few years but some how couldn’t do that. Finally tried this last week but somehow it turned out dry. Later spoke with few friends and they told the tips and tricks to make soft kozhukattai.
Amma told that it is similar to our karadaiyan nombu vella adai and I tried in the similar way. It turned out super soft and juicy. I completely enjoyed it. I have posted many varieties of kozhukattai | Modakam in Jeyashri’s Kitchen.

Sweet pidi kozhukattai recipe
Sweet pidi kozhukattai
Ingredients
- ½ cup rice flour
- ½ cup jaggery
- 1 and ¼ cup water
- ¼ cup grated coconut
- 1 tsp ghee + few for greasing
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a pan add ½ cup of jaggery. Always powder the jaggery and measure for perfect measurements.
- Add 1 and ¼ cup water to the pan.
- Melt the jaggery and filter the impurities.
- Add this back to the pan.
- Now add ¼ cup grated coconut to this and ¼ tsp of cardamom powder and a pinch of salt as well.
- If adding sesame seeds, dry roast 1 tbsp of sesame seeds and add to this.
- Add 1 tsp of ghee
- Allow this to boil.
- Once it starts boiling, keep the flame low and add ½ cup rice flour.
- I used store-bought rice flour. You can use idiyappam flour or homemade rice flour as well.
- If using idiyappam flour do not add salt.
- Mix well without any lumps.
- Cook till the water completely evaporates.
- Cover this and keep. Else it will become dry.
- Once warm to handle, knead the dough well. You can grease your hands with ghee and knead the dough.
- Make lemon sized balls and make this into pidi kozhukattais. Let your fingerprint come in the kozhukattais.
- Steam for 8 minutes.
- This will give a glossy look and its ready.

- Water depends on the nature of the rice flour. I used store-bought rice flour.

I was so happy to find this recipe! BUT…. I wanted to make more. So I x3 all the amounts, cos I wanted triple the amount, but it was too sticky and wet!
I had to add another 2 -2.5 cups of rice floor and another cup of coconut.
I think you should add a note when increasing amounts….
Hi, thanks for the message. I have made the recipe many times before posting it here. This recipe even when you double or triple will give perfect results. Not sure where it went wrong for you. If you would have cooked it for a few more minutes, it will be non-sticky. Not sure where it got wrong. I am surprised to know that you put 2.5 cups of rice flour. Due to the texture of the rice flour, little difference in water can happen, but 2 to 2.5 cups is a huge difference.
