We make Idli | dosa for breakfast | dinner on most of the days. Even if we run out of idli, dosa, batter, we make Rava dosa or Instant karacha maavu dosa or Rava Idli. This pepper flavoured tomato chutney I tried recently and it was a super hit at home. I posted an Instant jowar dosa recipe on my Instagram page and everyone liked it very much. I posted the picture of the dosa with this tomato pepper chutney. Many readers asked for the recipe. I tried this again yesterday and made a video and step-by-step pictures. Try out this super flavourful chutney. This even goes well with chapati too.

Tomato Pepper Chutney
Tomato pepper chutney
Ingredients
- 2 Tomato
- 3 red chili
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp urad dal
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 3 tsp oil
- A small piece tamarind
- 2 tbsp coconut
- 3 tsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- Few curry leaves
- 2 small onions optional
Instructions
- In a pan add 3 tsp oil and add the urad dal, red chili, black pepper, garlic cloves and tamarind.
- Saute till the dal turns golden brown.
- Take it out and keep it aside.
- In the same pan add roughly chopped tomato,
- Saute this till it becomes soft. Add salt to this and mix well.
- Take out and cool. Transfer this to a mixie jar and add 2 tbsp of coconut.
- Grind this into a smooth paste.
- Transfer this to a bowl.
- Temper mustard seeds and curry leaves in 2 tsp sesame oil.
- Add this to the chutney.
- You can finely chop 2 small onion and temper in 1 tsp of oil, till golden brown and add to the chutney.
- This step is optional but it gives a nice texture and crunchiness to the chutney.
- Alternatively you can temper with thalippu vadagam too.
- Mix well.
- Add water to adjust the consistency of the chutney.
- Mix well and serve with idli, dosa, kuzhipaniyaram or with chapati too.
