Ulundhu kanji | urad dal porridge, healthy recipe using black urad dal and rice. A savory version of Ulundhu kanji recipe with step by step pictures and detailed instructions. This is also a Zero oil recipe.
Ulundhu kanji is one of the popular recipes in Tamilnadu. Usually made in many houses, when girls attain puberty. The black urad dal is very healthy and elders used to say this is very good for bones. I have seen in many houses they made this for weekend breakfast too. I have posted venthaya kali which is also good for lactating moms and girls who attain puberty.
One of my friend in Singapore, she makes this very regularly at home on weekends and her kids love this too. I have noted down the recipe from her long back but somehow missed giving it a try. Yesterday another good friend of mine was sharing about her daughter’s puberty, I suddenly remembered this recipe and tried it this morning. I have taken a video of Ulundhu kanji but due to time constraints, I will upload it by tomorrow.
The original recipe called for more rice and less urad dal but I added both in equal quantity. Also do add fresh homemade coconut milk for best taste.
